HGB's Book of the Month
Each month, we’ll shine a spotlight onto one of our titles and tell you a bit more about the story and the author.
From Highlight To Lowlifes
Released only this month, From Highlights to Lowlifes is based on a true story. Tilly McVeigh, a happily married mother-of-three just turned forty, found herself in an agonising situation. A successful business owner, she and her family enjoyed a nice life: trendy clothes, holidays abroad and regular nights out.
Then her nightmare began: her husband admitted to using their mortgage and bill money for gambling and cocaine. By the time she found out the truth, steps had been taken to repossess the family home.
In a bid to salvage the situation, Tilly fought to raise as much money as she could, but her efforts were futile. At her most desperate point, one of her husband’s new ‘friends’ offered her a little extra work. Dangling a wad of money, he reassured Tilly that she was the perfect person for the job.
She hadn’t been able to think straight for months. Had she been more in control of the situation, she wouldn’t have even let him finish his sentence. But desperation won out, and she agreed to his proposal.
Tilly found out the hard way that she couldn’t rely on anyone but herself. The men in her life only let her down and told her lies. She accepted the part she played and regretted her actions, but she’d only done what she did to protect her family.
Read her story and find out for yourself if she deserved what she got, or if there’s more to it than that. Was she used and abused by the real criminals out there? Shouldn’t they have been behind bars instead?
